Apple Cherry Crumble

This is the BEST Apple Crumble recipe I've come up with. Adding in cherries just puts it over the top! The topping has the perfect mix of buttery crumble with oats and optional nuts that completes the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 8 Apples 4 Granny Smith and 4 Honey Crisp. Cored, peeled, and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 3 cups Fresh or Frozen Pitted Cherries
  • 1 cup Packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Crumble Topping

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3 sticks unsalted butter (1 1/2 cup) room temperature
  • 1 cup rolled oatmeal
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 375°F
  • Peel, core and cut the apples into cubes.
  • Cut your fresh or defrosted cherries in half (check for pits and remove).
  • Place the apples and cherries in a bowl with the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and gently toss to coat. Set aside.
  • Pour your apple and cherry mixture into a 9x13 baking dish.

Make your crumble topping

  • For the crumble topping, mix the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter in a food processor or bowl if you do not have a food processor.
  • Using the food processor, pulse the topping until just combined.
  • Add the oats and nuts and pulse once or twice to combine without breaking up the nuts too much.
  • If you do not have a food processor you can do this in a large bowl with a pastry blender, fork, or spoon to combine.

Bake your Apple Cherry Crumble

  • Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple and cherry mixture. I use my hands to break up the larger chunks of topping and spread evenly.
  • Bake at 375°F for about 30 minutes.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a big dollop of whip cream. Or both!

Notes

You can also cut this recipe in half and bake it in an 8x8 baking dish.
