Plan to enJOY Christmas -When Do You Put Up Your Tree?

In November we’ll be talking about gift giving and Decorating and as I sat down this morning to get started I wondered, “when does everyone else put up their Christmas Tree”. So that’s my question for the day.

I love to go out on the day after Thanksgiving or even Thanksgiving night to pick out a Christmas tree.
When we used a fake tree I always tried to do the same thing but it never quite happened as early as I wanted. I just love having the house decked out as soon as possible. I also do this because there is just so much to decorate and it’s something I really love to do.

Having the tree up early means I can focus on the other decorations around the house. My goal this year is to have all of the decorations up by December 3rd. I’m also simplifying how many decorations we put out this year, so that should help.

I’d love to know:

When do you put up your Christmas Tree?

Do you have any traditions when you put up the tree?

Most years the tree goes up on Thanksgiving night, everyone is relaxed on the couch and it’s the prefect time to just put up the tree and turn the lights on. The rest of the decor goes up over the after Thanksgiving weekend. I’m not a black friday shopper so I love to spend that weekend getting the house all decked out.

I am boring. I put up the tree whenever I think of it, but never before Thanksgiving. I have no traditions and usually I do it alone. Of course for the past 5 years our tree has only been 2 feet tall so it was never a very exciting project.

This year? Now that we have a house and room for a regular sized tree? Honestly I still want to use the 2 feet one and buy a nice artifical on sale after the holidays. I’ve been told that is very Scrooge-ish of me. Eh… We’ll see.

We have a fake tree. We did it so I could stay healthy. It is actually very pretty. When the kids were little we would go to the tree farms and hunt for the right one… now that we are semi retired we just put up our ‘costco’ one and as we do it we put on Christmas music make coffee or have a glass of wine and decorate to our hearts content. I have found it is not the tree that makes the holiday it is keeping Christ in the room. It is all about the nativity and the story and the music and the giving from ones heart.

We set up our tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. We turn on the local radio station that plays Christmas music from Nov. 1-Dec. 31. My husband and kids set up the tree, hubby puts on the lights, and I hand out the ornaments, one by one, to each child and they put them on the tree with guidance from us. It’s a fun time!

We use an artificial tree. One year, it would be fun to get a real tree. I bet it would smell great!
