Moleskine Professional Binder Portfolio Review

After some recent “window shopping” on the Moleskine website I couldn’t resist the urge to order the new Moleskine Folio Professional Binder. I hopped over to Amazon and placed my order. Thanks to Swagbucks I didn’t pay a dime to place the order! I received my Binder last week and I couldn’t wait to try it out.

The packaging:

When I opened up the box I found the binder nicely packed in a plastic sleeve. The rings inside the binder were covered to protect the inside of the binder during shipping, which is always a plus, no ring marks on the inside of the cover. The binder was in great shape and did not have any visible flaws.

The Size:

The binder size was not a surprise, when closed it is the same size as a traditional binder. I do want to note that if you order from Amazon you will notice that this item doesn’t not have a 5 star review at this time. This is because many purchasers expected an A4 sized binder. This is a 3 ring binder for 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

The Feel:

Like all Moleskine notebooks the feel of the binder is great. It has the traditional cover of a Moleskine. It was a bit stiff when I first used it but I hope that after time I will “break it in” and it will have a nicer feel.

The Features:

The Cover – The cover is nice and durable. Inside the cover is the traditional Moleskine “In case of loss…” book plate with an area where you can write your name address and even a reward amount if you would like.

3 Rings – The 3 rings are nice. I like that they are black in color and think that it looks very classic. I love that the rings are attached to the back cover and not the spine. It lays very flat on the desk which is crucial. I was able to get about 150 pages of text weight paper in the binder nicely. That is with about 50 pages in the back pocket. You would be able to fit more paper in the binder with the back pocket empty.  I do wish that the rings had a locking feature like some other binders that I use. I’m afraid that after much use the rings might separate, but only time will tell.

The pocket – The pocket on the back cover is what originally drew me to this binder. I love that they used the same material for the pocket sides as the cover. It’s a nice look

I was a bit disappointed that the back pocket opened nice and wide, however it did not have a gusset at the back. This limits the amount of paper you can fit in the pocket and I worry that it will put stress on the pocket after time. I was pleased to find that even without the rear gusset I was able to fit 50 pages of text weight paper in the pocket.

The Elastic Strap:

I love that Moleskine kept their elastic strap even on this binder. I love it. I love being able to wrap the elastic strap around the binder and it keeps everything in it’s place. The binder stays closed which keeps everything nice and neat.

Overall:

I love it. I’m excited to really get into using it this week. Now I have to decide what I’ll use it for. I’m thinking of using it for my daily business notes since I think it will hold up nicely to daily use and it looks great if I have to tote it along to meet with a client. Once again, I was not disappointed with this new Moleskine product. The quality is great, although I do think there were spots that could have used a bit more refining.
