Today I decided to write a to-do list but backwards.

I started to write a to-do list for today and really got discouraged, looking at all of the things that I was trying to fit into about 12 hours seemed unrealistic! Then it hit me… I threw away the To-Do list and started to write down what I did accomplish– my “I DID LIST”

So here it is at 11:30pm… my I DID LIST

  • 10 minutes of prayer and devotional time
  • Fed and clothed the kids
  • Washed all the dishes
  • Wiped counters down
  • Pruned the roses
  • Picked peas and beans
  • Did 1 load laundry
  • Vacuumed Downstairs
  • Sat down with Hubby to plan vacation and go over the next 3 months calendars.
  • Picked a date for Little Guy’s 1st birthday.
  • Wrote checklist for beach vacation
  • Entered receipts into Pear Budget
  • Worked on Budget
  • Went to target (diapers, wipes, cheap Eggo’s and some other bargains!)
  • Washed 2nd load of laundry
    Inventoried our deep freezer and stockpile in the basement (more on this later!)
  • Typed up inventories
  • Took a shower

Now I didn’t write down every little thing like playing with the kids or the potty incident. But you get the idea I hope.

It is so encouraging to look back and see everything I accomplished today.

This works for me and I might keep doing this when I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. I like to see progress,  I know there is some special term for this but hey it’s 11:30 and I’ve done a lot today so I’m off to bed!

    Wow!! Very impressive and what a great idea!

    I’ve just finished reading The Power of Less and it’s all about doing less and getting more things accomplished. It is a FANTASTIC book–highly recommend it. As for the average to-do list, its says to choose only 3 must-do things for the day, and to do those things first. If you get anything else done during the day, that’s just gravy. I’m keeping that in mind and it’s very helpful, not to mention calming.

      Thanks for the book suggestion. I’ll have to remember to grab that book to read on vacation. Good idea to keep a short to-do list, I’ll have to give that a try. I do tend to work better with lists and it helps me to unload my brain at the end of the night (or in the morning). I’ve just recently started to prioritize my to-do lists by marking them with ‘A’ ‘B’ or ‘C’. That way I stay focused on what NEEDS to get done before I get in to a project or task that is not as urgent.

    hi – great idea…I’ve been meaning to work on a to-do list for tomorrow, and I have a feeling it might be a bit depressing…I’ll have to keep in mind celebrating all that I do accomplish! 🙂
