Congratulations! I have e-mailed both of you!

I can hardly believe that we’re already beginning our Advent which means Christmas is right around the corner.

This year we will be doing a Jesse tree during Advent which is a new thing for us. We are also going to continue our tradition of reading a Christmas book each night from December 1st till Christmas Eve. If you’re just getting started creating traditions for your family, then this is a simple tradition to start with.

“Where do I find the books?” you might be wondering.

  • One simple solution is to head to the library. Take out a weeks worth of books at a time and you’re all set!
  • We also try to purchase one new book every year that we open and read on Christmas Eve
  • After Christmas sales at bookstores are always a great place to hunt down a good deal also.

One thing we try to keep in mind is that as our children grow their reading comprehension and skills will grow and their interest in board books will be gone! So I try not to spend much on books. I also try to buy books that remind us of the reason for Christmas.

I’m thrilled today because thanks to  Tommy Nelson I have TWO books to giveaway today!

This month we were sent The King’s Christmas List and A Christmas Prayer to read and review.

After reading both books with our children (age 2 & 4) I can say that I would highly recommend both books.

The first book, The Kings Christmas List is my favorite! It’s a story of a girl, Lady Emma and the imaginary trip she takes when she is invited to the King’s Birthday Party. It’s a story of giving even when it’s not easy. Along her journey she finds people in need and gives them what she has, showing up to the party empty handed.

This is a story about giving gifts that make a difference – helping those in need. What I love the most is that at the end of the book World Vision offers several ways that your family can help those in need.

Our daughter got so excited when she read that we could give CHICKENS to help a family in need, so that is something we’ll be doing this year! Take a peek at the inside of the book Click HERE

The second book that we were sent was A Christmas Prayer

A Christmas Prayer is a sweet board book about a child saying a prayer, thanking God for all of the many characters in the nativity story – Starting with Gabriel the angel and ending with Jesus. To take a peek inside Click HERE

Donna, I love the idea of opening a new book each Christmas Eve. Can I steal it?!?! You are a great mother. A Christmas tradition I have is to burn an advent candle each night until Christmas. It is a great thing to do at the dinner table each evening. I would love either book : )

Holiday traditions are so much fun! I wish we had done more when our now grown children were younger.

I think I would like to win the book A Christmas Prayer!

Thanks, Donna, for your ideas for my “beverage gift” that I have to get by Saturday. I am headed to Williams Sonoma on Friday.

I’d love The King’s Christmas List! We love reading Christmas books. I’ve gotten one new one each year for the past few years, and just purchased this year’s book yesterday! My favorite one is at home, packed away, unfortunately. It opens into a fold out stable with Mary/Joseph/Jesus etc cardboard characters.

I don’t have either book, so would enjoy either one for my boys!
My boys are 2 and 3 so our traditions are really just starting to take shape, but one thing we have done every year and will continue to do so is get the kids new pjs for Christmas eve night. It’s fun looking throughout the year for the *perfect* pair for each boy! 🙂
