I’ve mentioned before that I indeed NEED to have curriculum. So when we looked for kindergarten homeschooling curriculum for this year I knew that I wanted to find curriculum that was easy to teach, low prep and fun for the kids. I think we’ve put together a great curriculum!
Our Main Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum: My Father’s World
I’ve been calling it “the skeleton” of our curriculum because My Father’s World is foundation curriculum for our year. If I get ONLY this done each day I can consider our day a success.
Bible: GrapeVine Studies
Grapevine Studies is “stickfiguring through the Bible”. I love this hands-on way to teach little one’s about the bible. I’m no artist but I can draw a stick figure!! This will be a great supplement to our bible studies.
Math: Math U See
I have always heard wonderful things about Math U See and I was always keeping an eye out for a cheap copy. This spring I was thrilled when I found the curriculum at a yard sale and picked it up for just $10! (not including the manipulatives). Claire has loved using MUS she flies through lessons and is learning basic math skills very quickly!
Art: Artistic Pursuits
When Claire was in preschool last year they learned a lot of Art history in their art class. I wanted to continue to teach her the history of art and when I found Artistic Pursuits it seemed like the perfect fit!
Character: We Choose Virtues
We Choose Virtues has already become a great tool in our home. When the children misbehave I bring them over to the chart and explain their behavior to them. I remind them how they should behave and I remind them to ask for forgiveness.
Handwriting – Handwriting Without Tears
Again, I’ve always heard wonderful things about Handwriting Without Tears and it was on my ‘wishlist’ for a long time. A dear friend at church found a set for me at a yardsale for just $5.00!! We are excited to get started using it and I hope to move into cursive next year for our daughter.
Other Curriculum on our bookshelves:
Loads of books, library trips and snuggling on the couch. We will be spending lots of time reading out loud! Currently we are reading through the Little House series and the kids just love it.
This year we will be getting memberships to our local Science Factory and Children’s Museum. I already know it will be a great investment and a great way to get out and do some handson activities.
I found Tricia’s site. HodgePodge.com a few months ago. She has wonderful tutorials on her site for teaching little one’s to use Pastels in art. I love that it is very tactile, like finger painting and children can very easily create beautiful art!
I finally found a great homeschool co-op that is close to our house! Our church has a great co-op but the 30-35 minute drive is not appealing!! I finally found a co-op that is right around the corner. They meet weekly and Claire will have Gym, bible and other subjects each week. Caleb will even have Preschool classes, which I know he will love. I will have time in “prayer and share group” which gives moms time to encourage and support one another each week. I’m really looking forward to starting in September and I know our kids will love the social time and making new friends.
I hope you’ll check back over the next month as I will be reviewing several of these curriculum and having some great giveaways!
