My sweet friends, Chris Ann and Kristin over at the LoveFeast Table ask if I would like to be a hostess for their Gathered Thoughts Party. It sounded like a great way to stretch myself to write something different, to challenge myself a bit.
How it works:
About the Gathered Thoughts Box:
The gathered thoughts box is a new product at the LoveFeast shop. I love the concept. It’s a beautiful box filled with 365 handmade cards with inspirational quotes, one for each day, I love this idea because often I need a little writing prompt. I love finding quotes that bring a spark of inspiration for my day and this box is full of them! I think the box would be a great dining table piece, perfect to spark conversations at dinner parties and even to add new conversation to your family dinner times.
My Gathered Thoughts Card:
The LoveFeast girls send me a small pack of cards and I chose one to use as a writing prompt for their Gathered Thoughts Party…
Rebellion against your handicaps gets you nowhere. Self-pity gets you nowhere. One must have the adventurous daring to accept oneself as a bundle of possibilities and undertake the most interesting game in the world making the most of one’s best.
I was able to choose from a handful of cards and this is the card I chose. It’s so encouraging to me, especially for a perfectionist to realize that “Rebellion against your handicaps gets you nowhere” Isn’t that the truth?
I believe that we all have gifts. Special talents, skills, and strenghts that we are especially good at. These gifts could be something like the gift of hospitality – someone with this gift might enjoy blessing others with their home through entertaining, food, lodging and fellowship. You might love to entertain, bring meals to friends who are sick or open up your home to overnight guests.
No one person can be great at everything, and I know I am guilty of trying. The time I’ve spent trying to master a skill, hone a talent or learn a new ability could have been better spent on using my strong gifts to bless others. I think to myself, ” I could do that if I tried.” even when I know that I would not enjoy or do the task well. Rebellion against my handicap gets me nowhere! When I fail I fall miserably into self-pity mode and I think we can all agree that self-pity gets us nowhere, it stops us in our tracks and we mope, sulk, and can become unable to accomplish anything good. It’s sure hard to bless someone else when our pity party has us focusing only on ourself!
We need to be reminded that we each are a bundle of possibilities. Just waiting to bloom! We need to each recognize the gifts that we already have and make the most of them!
