A Family Tradition – The Family Birthday Plate

Today our little guy turned 3!

We started our day off with Mickey Mouse Pancakes served to the birthday boy on our special birthday Plate!

When our oldest was just about to turn 1 we went to a Paint-Your-Own-Pottery place and picked out a plate to paint just for birthdays.  I got the idea from our friend Rebekah.  Kevin painted the cute little cake in the middle and I stuck to simple geometric shapes like dots and lines.  That’s the extent of my artistic ability!

We just love how the plate turned out!  The family birthday plate comes out at each birthday; it’s a simple tradition that’s easy to start!   He just loved using the special plate for his Birthday Mickey Mouse pancakes.

Leave a comment and let me know what traditions you have for birthday.  I’d  love to hear your ideas!

Today I’m linking up over at Works-for-me-WEDNESDAY!  Over the last few years I’ve gathered so many great ideas and tips from this link-up.  I’m sure if you hop over there you’ll find something great too!

In our house the birthday person always gets to choose dinner. So far the kids tend to choose fish & chips from the takeaway round the corner – yay! But I’m waiting for the day when they choose ice-cream or lollies for dinner! They don’t seem to have through of it yet.

We have one of those too! Ours is “The Special Plate”, and it gets used not only for birthdays but also for 100% math tests, special awards at Karate, promotions, and more! One of our grown foster daughters told me recently that she and her new husband went shopping and bought a “Special Plate”. Things like that actually impact kids. I love it!

That’s a great idea, we may have to go out and make a “special plate!” That could be a very nice way to recognize little successes (or big one’s)! I love that your daughter is following in your footsteps, it really does say something about creating traditions doesn’t it!
