Coconut Oil – How I Use it & Why I Love It – Plus A Giveaway!

If you’ve been online you’ve probably heard buzz about Coconut Oil.  I first tried coconut oil about a year ago; I picked up a jar at my local grocery store to try it in a recipe. I didn’t truly appreciate the benefits of coconut oil until earlier this year, when I really started to make healthy changes in my diet.

Tropical Traditions recently sent me a 32 oz. size container of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil to review.  I had always heard great things about Tropical Traditions but had not ordered from they before.  When the package arrived I was pleased to see how HUGE the jar was!  { high-five to Tropical Traditions for sending out a great sized item to review. }

The most common way I’m using coconut oil is for when I make eggs.  Below is a picture of what I’ve been eating for lunch lately.

My lunch: 2 egg whites plus 1 whole egg scrambled in coconut oil.  Sometimes I toss in cut up Laughing Cow Cheese

Then I heat up a box of Green Giant’s Health Blend veggies – 1/2 the box is just 90 calories! Protein, veggies, fiber and lots of flavor!

When I first opened up the coconut oil the very first thing I noticed was the smell, it had a light scent of coconut.  This was different for me because the coconut oil I used before did not have this lovely smell.  When I have baked with the coconut oil I don’t notice the coconut taste or smell at all.  When I cook eggs with it I notice a very subtle smell of coconut, which I love.

Another way I have been using the coconut oil is in my hair.

YES MY HAIR!

Now I don’t have thick, curly hair like my adorable niece (I just wanted an excuse to post a picture of her!).

My hair has gotten pretty dry and frizzy since I started to highlight it again.  I knew that coconut oil is said to be great for your hair so I thought I would give it a try.

Here’s How: I took about 1/8 cup of oil and smoothed it throughout my hair (mostly on the ends, where my damage is). You may need to use more or less depending on the length and thickness of your hair. Then I wrapped my hair up in a bun and let it sit for a little over an hour. I jumped in the shower and shampooed my hair as usual but I did not condition.  When I dried my hair afterwards I could tell an immediate difference, My hair was smooth, super soft and frizz-free! It also smelled lovely.

Other Ways I have used coconut oil:

  • To soften my cuticles
  • To tame frizzy hair when my hair is dry (I’ve used it like a pomade, just a dab)
  • As a moisturizer for my hands and heels
  • I even removed some sticky label residue off our table with coconut oil!
  • I’ve baked Healthy chocolate chip cookies and promptly at them all!

Today I’m excited to offer one of my lucky readers a 32 oz jar of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil!!

I’ve used coconut oil for making popcorn on the stove. I LOVE the slight coconut taste that ends up on the popcorn. YUM!

I love Coconut oil, I cook with it, use it to make chap-stick, lotion bars and deodorant. I also used it last month when I had a really sore throat and it cleared it up in a day! It has so many health benefits and I just like the taste better too.

Hey Donna! 🙂 I love this post. I use coconut oil in all of my soaps and scrubs, my hair treatment, lip and cuticle balms, and more. I think it is my favorite oil for skin and hair products I sell. It’s amazing. I use it for cooking, too- people don’t realize how healthy it is!! Just wanted to thank you for spreading the word on the way s you use it for hair/skin. There is a big new knowledge of it for cooking but you don’t see as much on the net about the wonders it does for skin! Seeing as how I buy it in 5 gallon drums I’ll wait to enter a different givaway and let your other followers have a chance to enjoy this awesome oil. I just wanted to say I loved the post! i also love you on twitter! Love the new blog. Glad you found a home that’s just right!
