Workboxes for the New Homeschooler

We’re about 3 weeks into homeschooling our 4 year old preschooler.  When I began looking for homeschool resources online I kept seeing “Work Boxes”. After seeing several web sites featuring workbox systems I knew it was perfect for me. Being the organized wannabe  that I am, just seeing the photos with labeled boxes all lined up made me happy.

I promptly ran out to Target and found these boxes. I thought they were the perfect size for my preschooler. {In hindsight I would have shopped around to find a better deal. I also could have repurposed something in our home to create the boxes. These weren’t the cheapest way to go!}

I found the labels over at  Homeschool Creations web site and printed them out.

I laminated the labels so they would hold up well. I grabbed Laminating Pouches & Velcro dots last week on Amazon.com at a great price! I used velcro dots to adhere the labels to the boxes. I can switch out the labels easily.

I’m not using these boxes the way that Sue Patrick intended when she came up with the workbox idea. I’m using them to simplify my planning. I tend to like everything very visual. It’s easy for me to look over and see what topics we are doing that day and Claire can run over and grab the box that she wants to do first. It’s simple and I love it!

    It really makes a lot of difference if we make our workboxes more attractive and inviting to our preschoolers. I designed their workboxes with their favorite cartoon characters cut outs. It adds fun to the kids schooling time.

    We have a slightly different workbox system, I just number the boxes and Hudson finishes what ever is in them… so far so good 🙂

      I’ve thought of doing that – it might be easier to do once I have an actual curriculum to use 🙂 I saw on your blog that you have goats. I’ve wanted to get goats for a while but my hubby says they are a headache. I’d love your thoughts?
