The Morning Battle

It’s 8am… I am still in bed, tucked under my warm blankets, … I hear little feet running through the hall… a little voice “mommy?? is it wake up time yet?” and immediately I feel the weight of the day – I should have gotten up earlier – I should have gotten up before the kids, I’m already behind for the day!

Raise your hand if you’ve felt this way.

For some it might be guilt, for sleeping in so late. For others it’s disappointment that we chose to ignore the alarm. For me it’s a both.

History has shown me that if I get up earlier, before the kids, have some time to read my bible, prepare my coffee and plan my day; everyone has a better day.  My attitude is improved, I’m ahead instead of behind and most importantly I’ve set my day before God, I’ve made Him first, not an afterthought.

I’ve been joining along in “Hello Mornings” over at Inspired to Action. Our fearless leader Michelle from “So, I Married a Mennonite” (and YES! she does have the BEST blog name ever!) has been encouraging us as we struggle to drag ourselves out of bed each morning.

I’m way behind and I’ve been struggling to stick with my new morning routine, but I’m not giving up.

I read a blog post on Motherhood…Your Way (another favorite blog!); the post was written by Kat (who writes Inspired To Action) the other day that really struck a chord in me and wanted to share it with all of you.

Wonderful post and “serendipitous”! The whole waking up thing was on my mind, too. I was considering the story in Merlin Carother’s book, Prison to Praise. He tells the story of a conversation with God about being reluctant to get out of bed in the morning. God reminds Carothers of all the reasons he should be thankful for the waking and the rising. I am also learning to thank God for the blessing of being able to get out of bed in the morning. There was a time when He almost took that opportunity away from me – permanently.

You can do it! If it gets to hard, just lower your goals. Jesus fed thousands with a couple loaves and fish, He can do amazing things with just 5 minutes of time with Him in the morning!

See you in about 30 minutes!
